Now is no time to desert the Lib Dems…we must fight for the soul of our party!

I agree with the Deputy Leader of our Party, Simon Hughes…this is no time for members to be deserting us and resigning from the Lib Dems, whatever their grievances.
This is the time to be sticking by the party and helping it through this difficult period and remembering that there is more that unites us than divides us, much more.
The issue of tuition fees has been tough for us, no doubt about it.
I’ve made my position clear on that in previous posts and have no more to say about that.
What I do want to say is this: let’s remember all the positive, progressive things this Government is doing on a whole host of issues, including civil liberties, helping the poorest people in our society, reforming welfare-helping people back into work…and that’s just for starters.
Of course, after this past week, passions are running high. I understand that. But people don’t help their cause by throwing their toys out of their pram and deserting the party now.
We need every member; we need their passion, their energy, their drive and belief to see our party through.
Remember party membership is up since the general election, not down.
That means are cause, our movement if you like, is growing not shrinking.
So, right, enough of this self-absorbed navel-gazing.
Now is the time to come together and remember those who we serve and seek to serve.
We need to re-dedicate ourselves to help the least, the last and the lost.
