A relaunch for this blog!
December 4, 2010 § 1 Comment
AS the eagle-eyed amongst you will have (hopefully) noticed, this blog has had somewhat of a facelift today.
I hope you like the new, fresh businesslike design and that you’ll come back here on a regular basis.
The big news since I last posted is that I am now an official Liberal Democrat Borough Council Candidate, for Barwell Ward in Hinckley and Bosworth (to be contested on May 5th next year), having gone through the local selection process and been ratified by the Bosworth Lib Dems AGM on Wednesday, January 24th.
I’m deeply humbled by the trust the local party have placed in me and hope to re-pay that trust by working very hard over the next six months or so and do all I can to retain the seat for the party (a Lib Dem currently holds it but is retiring after many years dedicated service.)
I’m proud of much of what Liberal Democrats are achieving in Government; from taking the poorest working people out of paying income tax altogether, to the excellent Pupil Premium, to halting-at least for now-the renewal of Trident, to helping part-time students, to the green agenda we’re pursuing and on and on.
The concern is that we’re not getting the credit we deserve for what are, genuinely, Lib Dem achievements-action taken thanks to our party’s Ministers and Secretaries of State.
Our opinion poll numbers may not currently be what we’d hope for, but we’re winning Council by-elections across the country and party membership is up by some margin on what it was at the election-the last I heard was that, in the East Midlands alone, we have 412 new members, a rise of 14%
So, despite much of the media portrayal at the moment, there is a positive story to be told about the Liberal Democrats, nationally and locally too.
Our local team in Hinckley and Bosworth has achieved so much in recent years and we’ll be reminding local voters about our team’s many successes from now until the election and beyond.
We’re here-and I’m here- to serve the people of our area, to represent their views and concerns as best we can and-where possible-to take action to help make their lives and our area better.
